I'm constanly looking for more places to store stuff when we go camping. There's a lot of space under the floors. I have side lockers but i'm now thinking of putting some under floor boxes in the front floor plates (easy as they could be made and fitted on the bench). They sell floor safes for Defenders so it would be a bit like that. The other idea is a bigger box under the rear tub, perhaps to take a stove. My plan would be to cut the floor and rivet in a box and use the floor as a hinged lid. The tub is already cut out and reshaped for the portaloo so there's no need to be precious about it. I made the side lockers and overhead shelves myself so I'm confident now I could tackle this. Its a LWB and the side lockers added a coupe of cu-ft so its worth the trouble.
Anyone done this or got some good links? Its always easier to copy someone elses's hard work!

I like the idea of using the space underneath but for me a hinged floor would be a hassle a bit like getting a spare wheel out of a loaded boot.

This is what im doing...boxes slide out onto fold down sides held flat by chains...inside they are same size as wheel boxes

I like those boxes, I've been buying aircraft galley boxes but the price is creeping up, I think they are getting trendy, pity as they are really well made. I like the forward control, you have a lot more space. I've seen a rear floor box somewhere but the price was way over my budget.

Re insurence (it an S2a not a Defender - pass the mouthwash please..) - yes in considrable detail with interior and exterior photos and agreed value and a 6 month battle with the DVLA over the body description as the underwriters required decsription and log book body to match but the insurence was "camper" and the log book "truck". The DVLA will no longer reclassify Landrover body types (2 rounds of letters plus appeal) as they are considered demountable, we compromised on "4x4 utility" and everyone was happy.
