Hello,
I purchased my freelander 1 1.8es 2003 about 3 weeks ago, at the time I was aware that the clutch was very heavy but usable, however big chief was not impressed as she could not change gear. I looked at the many useful post on here and decided to look at the clutch hydraulics, and sure enough the slave was mangled, so I ordered the new part and fitted it today, I know people fit it within 30 mins, but not me took me 20mins to just to get the master attached to the clutch, but I stuck to the the task and was happy it was fitted.
But now I cannot engage any gear unless I press the clutch through the floor and jam the stick into reverse, so now I am out of pocket, no car and I can't see an alternative solution, I looked at the clutch release arm I don't know how free to move it should be I can move it but need to use heavy bar screwdriver, I sprayed wd40 and some 3 in 1 oil but it has not made much difference, the slave moves about an inch.
I was careful not to let any air in sealed unit and there does not appear to be any leaks, and ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated, I am on a very tight budget and a beginner DIY mechanic.
Many Thanks
