Tyres

Hi,
Just after a bit of advice. i got a 96 disco tdi and was lookin to put new tyres on her when ive looked at the the size its just got 205 r16 on the tyre wall. When ive looked on the net they have a another set of numbers aswell eg 205/80 r16. Am i right in understanding this other number is the tyre wall size? If so is there anyway of finding out what size mine are?

Standard sizes for the Disco 1 are:

205/80/R16

235/70/R16

235/70/16 was, i think, fitted to the top spec 300 series werent they, XS and ES models? granted theres like minute % difference between em.

235's do look better though! Skinny tyres on a wide car just look odd to me lol

Yes but they are cheaper to buy, run quieter and are lighter on the steering components as there is less drag.

205/80 r16.

205 width of tyre
80 wall size is 80% of the tyres width (in this case 164mm)
r16 is for a 16 inch rim wheel

The 235/70 R16s came as standard on my 94 V8 ES model. My booklet says they were an option for other models. Just replaced the front 2 for £119 this week (Enduro HT Runway 235/70 R16 106T ). The also have different tyre pressures (26/33 instead of 28/38).
