Tyres Again

So heres the story, i bought these, landrover discovery 1 parts - DoneDeal.ie

and now i want new tyres along the lines of decent AT tyre, im not too pushed on the off road performance as it wont be doing that much off road besides pulling a boat down a beach and the odd bit of light offroading, however a do want something that looks good, pretty much like the tyres on the pictures below. im led to believe that 265/75 r16s would suit these parameters pretty good, Any suggestions as to what the below tyres might be/there sizes, what do we think??

265/75r16 would be probably the optimum size for what you have in mind, That is for defender fitment I take it ?
AT type tyre eg in BFG or Cooper, Kumho good possibles , go for new rather than retreads for best mileage HTSH
 
First of all make sure the alloys fit and you use the right alloy nuts. I have Land Rover alloy wheels with 265/75 R16s fitted on my 110 with Runway Enduro A/T tyres. These are cheap and cheerful (about £60) on it when I bought it and give you roughly a 2 inch lift from standard tyres and stand 31 inches off the ground.

thanks for that lads, @mrJC the alloys fit fine and the nuts i have are off the disco they were originally on, they fit too but i need to get new ones anyway as i dont have enough of them. did you have any problems with tyres rubbing or anything like that?
@tacr2man yea there for a 110 td5 discs all round, fit fine.

265/75r16 fit without any clearance issues on a 110 , they are fractionally smaller dia than a 750r16 but not enough to really notice.
 
Try ebay for your wheel nuts if you are not fussed on shiney ones... I paid a £1 each for mine. Yes I have a slight rubbing on left full lock but otherwise fine. I believe you can adjust some sort of a stop nut to stop this. Not got round to that but do a search on here and you will get the answer.
The tyres mentioned by tacr2man are good quality... maybe worth the extra
 
I'll put in a vote for BFG AT - we've had them for years on the shogun and have been putting them onto Defenders (not the Series because that's a play thing...).

They're a little pricey initially (I think the last lot were about £110 / tyre) but in the long run there's little to beat them - the minimum mileage we've had out of them is ~65k give or take a few thousand. If you're not doing really extreme mud stuff then they're more than adequate and have yet to get stuck properly in them.

They're such a worthwhile investment we moved them onto the new 110 when we decided to get rid of the 90.

I've been having a rubbing issue when I put the BFGs on alloys onto the 110 - spent 5 minutes adjusting the stop-nuts and well worth it. Quickest way I found was to jack the front up onto a pair of axle stands (to reduce the tyres rubbing too much) and get someone to turn the wheels from full-lock to full-lock while undoing the nuts until they just cleared the trailing arms.

I find it a bit easier to drive around now as I don't have to be cautious of turning it too hard and catching the tyres (was rubbing badly) - although having said that I've only had the 110 for a week so would have probably got used to it eventually...
 
I've never had any experience with Cooper tyres but bear in mind that the BFGs have a very hard-wearing rubber on them and thus in the long run are going to be cheap.

As a simple example of this - the last set of BFGs we had did ~70,000 miles and at the time were ~£100 a tyre. A small car we have has £50 / tyre tyres on and manages about 30,000 per set. So in this instance the BFGs were slightly cheaper than the others although they took far more of a hammering than the Suzuki's tyres did. Plus the Suzuki's were replaced when they were very illegal - the BFGs were replaced with 5mm of tread on them.

I do like the look of the muds but like you can't quite justify them on the 110 and don't want to have to fork out for new rims for the series (the more hard-core off-roader)...
 
yea the coopers really dont seem to be getting as good a recommendation as the bfgs tbh, but still a good enough tyre i think, any idea how the 285's will fair under my defender? im curious as to whether ill have other problems besides moving out the stops....
 
no problem :) thanks for the help anyway, looks like ill take the bfg's anyway, if anyone else has anything to add on whether 285/75 r16 will rub or cause trouble, your comments are welcome :)
 
Finally got around to it, ordered in a set of BFG MT KM2's, :) yaya i know there hardly going to be used in the mud but they'll be good on the beach and were only 40quid extra so it was worth it :D 265/75 R16, pictures will be up next week when i get them delivered and fitted :)

ATs would be better on the beach :croc:
