Tyre pressures

Sorry, dummy question here, I have a Defender 110 running on steels with Insa Turbo 235/85 R16s, what pressure should I have these at with an light or medium load on road? The manual doesn't seem too helpful as the tyres have been changed since then. I'm clutching at 28/48? Hoping you clever fellas can help me out here. Thank you.

I run my 90 (can't see why they would be that dissimilar ?) @ 32psi (ish) both ends and take them down to 15/20psi when in really soft ground, otherwise they stay around the 32 all the time.

Thank you, does it make much of a difference whatever tyres you're running?

I wouldn't think so, it's not like we are racing along at over 100mph.
Anywhere around the early thirties for road use would be fine.

l've found that my 110 actually rides better when the rear tyres are at 42psi
As in, less bouncy.

The handbook actually recommended 48psi

I would go 30psi all round for general use, but pump the rears up to 40 or more for towing or fully laden.

That is what I used to do on my Ninety, and on my Disco 2, which is probably more like a 110 on weight and wheelbase.

If the pressure is too low for how you are using your vehicle, the tyres get too hot. So check them. Put your hand on them as soon as you stop, occasionally.
There are many reasons to adjust the pressures. I run with standard suspension and generally down rural, bumpy uneven roads, so run around 30 psi. If I tow my trailer or carry a heavy load, I increase pressures. If I go on a motorway run I will increase the pressures.
Therefore it is pretty hard to say what you should do. It depends so much on what vehicle, what load, driving style, what suspension set up, what you use the vehicle for and even the type of tyres you have.

I run the same size tyre.
I go 28 front, 32 rear. Unladen and it's a 90 though so you might want to up the rears a touch.

I run 32psi/2.2bar all round unless I am towing on my 110, and if I am honest I don't always increase the pressure when towing

If you are unsure what pressure you need for your usage and driving go for the old fashioned trial and error to work it out. draw a chalk/wax line across the tyre tread and go for a short drive. if it worn off in the middle the pressure is too high, if it is worn off the edges the pressure is too low and if it is worn off evenly the pressure is about right.
