Hello all, put a new thread on as don't seem to be getting much input!(apart from one, thanks v useful)

Bought a 300tdi auto disco with road tyres on, 2 new mitchelin on front, 2 rear are ok on tread but starting to perish. (12months mot so legal) The problem is i need to drive and sometimes tow a water bowser across a (in winter) v muddy field. Im not bothered about changing the wheels as if i dont im going to get them painted (they're colour coded terquiose). I dont want to spend too much, too much spending on other stuff. Had bf goodrich ATs on my 90 which coped well with driving across the field without a bowser and were ok on road but the back end was a bit twitchy when breaking. Have seen some mint freestle alloys with hancook mud terrain tyres fitted for £250 (bit of a bargain i thought) & they are just down the road. But don't know whether these will be suitable for road use? I don't really want to go down the route of changing wheels over all the time (don't have enough time as it is!)

I basically need your noelibile advise on what tyre would be best (compremising) affecting handling, brakeing, mpg etc!!
Also the wheels i have seen are 235/80/16 but the ones i have at the mo are 235/70/16, would this make must difference?

Thanks very much!

just a little warning, if yer tread is falling apart, spilt, perished or otherwise fooked it is still illegal even if you have 5years mot on it.
i take it you've never been in a car that has had a tyre fall apart at speed? i can tell you its not a very nice feeling watching the world go round in slow motion. whislt wonder if this is the day your number has come up.
as fer what tyre to put on, well you'll get as many answers as there are tyres.

Save your money!!!!!! If I can get a 32ton truck fully loaded with road biast tyres on across a ****ty field, tip and get off without getting stuck i'm sure a disco can get across, just go hell for leather, my moto is "hit the **** flyin" it's all down to momentum :D

I like that advice!:D Bit of optimism un that!

:D This theory works until the **** reaches the axle casing's then you stop, then you need a D9 or a 360 and a decent chain :( and a road sweeper to clean up the road when you've got out.

Alright yella hows things, got 2 Pirreli Scorpians from Topgear Tyres, Rossmore Industrial estate, Ellesmere port. £50 each they still had the pimples on them, if you've got alloy's I'd take them off myself as the polish lad scratched mine getting them off (the TW*T). I got 4 good grabbers off him for £100 when I had the Shogun.

am running all 4 on scorpions, very good as road tyres, but am changin mine to grizzly claws as i do use it off road heavily once a week so ill have some good scorps going soon if anyone is interested.
only thing with the scorpions ifanyoneis going to use tem off road is that i find they fill up with ****e to quick and them become slicks. bit of water and all is good again,
hiya sq wirral, where abouts do you off road yours? am only on the other side of the water mate, i hear there is sopposed to be a half decent place at the back of vauxhall am i right?

Hi Raz, I used mine to reccie fields prior to taking trucks on them and found the scorpions to be ok but like you said once they fill with mud your on slicks luckily a farmer with his tractor was usually at hand if things went pairshaped I use mine mainly on road so it wasn't really worth putting mt's on. I've also heard about that course behind Vauxhalls one of our fitters takes his quad down there I'll try and find out more about it.

cheers sqwirral, aint been able to find it yet but if GMP catch me one more time looks like my disco is getting converscated lol
i also have a quad and a srambler here but they are too noisy to take to leigh where we usually go to does he get any hassle off the police?
