Ok, well maybe not a dilemma, but just some advice needed.

I have a freelander 1, I'm looking to put on a set of 245/70 tyres. They would be going on a set of standard freelander 16" 5 spoke alloys (native to the ex/gs models I think)

I know they'll go on the wheels and by my measurements should clear the arches enough, but I need to know if they'll foul the struts/steering arm.

Has anyone tried 245s before? Or have they had any problem with 235s perhaps?

I don't mind putting spacers on, but I wouldn't be comfortable with anymore than 5mm.

Any help is much appreciated. Ta guys!

I have 235/60 on mine and they are about 15mm away from the spring seat, so there is no way yours will fit without spacers. willtheyfit.com suggests they are 30mm higher as well as the 10mm wider, so at a guess, you would need at least 20mm spacers and probably best with the standard 30mm.

Cheers folks! I'll see if I can get some 30mm bolt on spacers for a decent price.

The tyres are my dads, they're big A/t remoulds and they only did 100 miles before his Isuzu trooper engine bit the dust. The car is being sold for spares or repair soon and the tyres are too good to miss!

What I meant before about spacers was the cheap, slip on, universal things. I'd go more than 5 mm with the decent bolt on ones. So if anyone knows a place that sells them for a good price or a used set that're up for grabs I'd be very grateful for details.

Much appreciated amigos! I'll let you know how I get on!

They'll not fit, too big for arches and will rub the arch whenever you slightly turn the wheel, my 225/75 had 2mm clearance, and 245/70 are 6mm bigger (each model of tyre is different, some are slightly bigger than others)

Also, the standard wheels are usually 6" wide (there were some around 6.5" but rare), they'll bulge over the wheels too much, the 225's looked too big when I got them really

Hi folks,

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just realized I never posted the outcome of my tyre hunt.
I thought I must tell what I ended up with as it's only right and may help someone else in the future.

I took a well educated guess on size and ordered some 'Sunitrac' (budget road tyres) 225/65/17 from tyresonthedrive. Com

These are a 10% bigger profile than standard and it makes a big difference for all the right reasons. Comfort, taller, smoother etc, I've had her through some quite deep mud and she's had a great time. Even though they're budgets, the cheapest I could find as it happens, I'm still very happy with the road holding and grip on tarmac.

I'm pretty confident that on a fl1 standard set up such as mine , this is the largest overall diameter you can go without rubbing and catching the arches.

Plus it looks the tits too!

Cheers for the help guys, I hope I've helped someone in return.
