Two steps forward...one back

The ongoing resto of my 110 continues; its not one of these off the road rebuild jobs but a repair and rejuvenate as I go along. Chassis needed some outriggers and a new middle cross member, springs and shockers replaced, new seats, carpet, steering joints, wheels and tyres and countless other things. Its now a tidy truck but still work to be done. Just as it gets better though there's always that step backwards and this weeks got em cheesed off. I fitted a reversing camera and monitor and must have disturbed a wire somewhere in the dash. The result was sparks and a lot of smoke and the insulation off the wire to the clock bulb has gone, burned back to that big junction where it all disappears. So now its a a dash out job to find the cause and replace the wiring! Seriously fed up!

All part of the fun of owning a landrover, always gives you something to do to stop you getting bored. Wish the weather would warm up so I can get on with my list of jobs.

TBH just taking the clocks out and moving wiring shouldn’t cause that kind of damage.

If the wires were that perished or the connections that bad it would likely have happened at some point anyway and potentially with worse consequences so better get it over done with it a minor way first.

Either that or you buggered up your wiring but the same would apply above, better a small short and sort it rather than a vehicle fire.

Either way chin up, cut out the damage and inspect the loom carefully to ascertain the cause then repair as you find.

Auto dorks are good for sourcing replacement wire if the correct colours to keep it standard iyswim

Its 30 years old and behind the radio is a bit of a birds nest I have found. I think what I have done is maybe move something when putting wires in as the but i did was fairly simple and is looking ok still. Perhaps Ive moved a wire that has pulled off a connector or some such thing. But yes being positive it could have been a lot worse or happened at a more inconvenient time. Had to brave the snow tonight in terrible driving conditions in wife's 4 wheel drive mini, a great little machine I have to say more worried about someone sliding in to me in that than I would have in the 110.
