Hi All
Got the dreaded two amigos TC/HDC lights.
Took out the brake light switch and opened it up to have a look and one of the contacts inside had snapped/corroded.
Fitted a brand new replacement but lights still showing.
Should also mention that brake lights are working.

It's possible the replacement is faulty, or the harness isn't correct.
The brake lights working is a red herring, as the switch has 2 sets of connectors inside, one set make when pressing the pedal, this puts the brake lights on and sends a signal to the ABS module. There's also a second set of contacts which break when the pedal is pressed, this is only used by the ABS module, and often the set responsible for the warning lights.
A code read with a suitable diagnostic tool will tell you what the lights are on for, so there's no guessing.

Sounds like reader is not working correctly. Fault lights means fault code or codes stored.

Are you interrogating the correct system. Most read engine codes only. You need to access the ABS computer at least. Make sure you select the correct type for the year as it changed around 02 /03.

Thanks.
I ran a OBDII diagnostics and it's showing no faults.
OBD2 won't read the ABS module, which is where the code will be stored. You need to use a multi-system code reader which has the ability to communicate with the Freelander 1 data bus.

Pscan does all this :

Did you solve this one ?

Mine is doing the same. HDC and TC light come on intermittently.

New brake lights switch as code C1152 showing.

No change. Still intermittent.

Slack on throttle is ok. 1.8 K series 2002 model.

I seem to remember that you had to trigger the brake switch before fitting first. Also the abs rings can wear down overtime. Is the hdc switch on the gearstick okay or damage. The first part maybe because of the spring not allowing the switch button to extend properly.

Unfortunatley, my engine seized before I could solve it. Much bigger problem on my hands now 😬

Thanks for update.

If you want a good TD4 engine, just about to strip out a rusted one. PM if you are repairing.
Planning on stripping it down and figuring out what caused it, only got 83k on it. Just waiting for some warmer weather and lighter evenings.

I expect the crankshaft has broken between No1 crank pin and the front. They're not a very strong casting, and there is a theory that using an impact gun without the special tool to remove the pulley bolt can crack the crank.

So I can't change the thread title to solved but get this!!

3 tested switches and 1 brand new switch, same fault TC and HDC orange lights.

Took a different design switch off a facelift car which had a short adaptor lead. Fitted it and problem gone. HDC works fine and all good.

So now I would like to know the difference between the old and new switches. What was changed?? Anyone ?

Looks like a design fault but it only appeared after replacing most of the brake components and the throttle position sensor.
