TVR cam TVR51 - can I use it?

Hi,

I won a TVR51 camshaft on ebay together with the main item I was bidding on (a V8 bell-housing for an R380) the 'bonus' cam seems to be in really good condition and I'd like to use it - from what I can find it should be used with double valve springs though and I'm wondering if its a bit too wild for use in a fairly standard 3.9 and might cost me a lot to bring the rest of the engine up to a spec to suit the cam.

but you will be removing it soon after..

reason..wrong torque curve..its designed for light weight car..not 2 ton motor so power/torque curve different..

I've seen tvr engine ps and cams used in landies before,
but these were automatics so some of the energy was dissipated through the torque converter, so it was tamed slightly,
alternatively I would use so rhoads lifters to make it more drivable at low rev, and then unleash the power up top, if you not to worried about noise lifters.
It depends entirely what landy it is and what you use it for.
If your using a 90 it might be a little over the top, but you. Would get away with standard lifters and make it fast, as it isn't that heavy,
a rangy or disco would drive fast and handle a little nicer.
But if you trial there's no point, unless your running a really low ratio set up.
But generally as zen says the torque curves all wrong

Thanks guys, that makes perfect sense - I'm still tempted to give it a try but that may wear off before it gets to crunch time, it's not like it's an easy cheap swap what with lifters etc.

It would mostly be used on road, or the occasional green lane and with a manual gearbox.

You won't come on cam until 5k rpm great if you intend to run around town at 5 or 6krpm absolutely no good and probably won't run too well at 800rpm
