hi,
i own a 1998 freelander and on saturday i was driving and the instruments on the dash or idicators were not working. once i parked it up i tried the key n everything worked ok again but when i got back to the car later i tried to start it but nothing. there were no lights on the dash (ignition light ect) and it was turning over but wouldnt start. checked fuses and disconected the battery then reconnected it again but nothing. anyone got any clues as to what they think it coul be?

thanks
chris

Clean the ignition barrel - squirt keyboard duster or graphite spray in it. Next try the wiring on the back of the ignition barrel for a chaffed wire between there and the bulkhead.

Any news about this?
mine (99 model) also cannot start even if the starter turns pretty good, the battery is only 3 months old, the battery/SRS/oil check lights come on but prety weak - can see them only in the dark...
had been driving with problems like dead dashboard from the start or when activating turn signals...
i'm in love my land rover and i'm desperate by reading problems with immobilizers, ECUs and others

Hi Had the same fault on my last freelander, cleaned contacts in ignition switch job done never happened again. easy to do remove plastic cover from around steering remove back of ignition switch and clean the copper contacts inside easy job to do hope this helps...

Thank you very much!! I will give it a try tomorrow afternoon.
Are there any bolts for the cover or any other details on how to do it (afraid of braking something)?
Glad to find such responce and help.

parislan, theres a couple of screws in the bottom of the lower cowl and the top clips to it, the rear of the ignition switch has a couple or three screws in it, take this part to bits and clean the contacts in it. this cured mine.
