Need to replace my cylinder head and was thinking of getting one of the reconditioned ones from Turner Engineering - seem to have good reviews.

Anyone have any experience with them? Or have any other companies to suggest?

Slightly put out by the fact they take my unit as a swap.

If you need to replace your cylinder head why does it matter if you have to part-ex yours?

Am I missing something?

With a call though to see if they will do outright purchase maybe

Turner do have good reviews and an excellent reputation; I've bought V8 parts from them in the past.

You don't say for which engine but they do standard and performance heads i.e. lightly ported and gas flowed, which is said to improve overall power over a wide torque range and also improve the mpg. No skimming, racy cams or other upgrades, which from what I've read, on 2.25 & 2.5 petrols results in a high revving engine with max torque at high rpm, not good IMHO.

They probably want your old head because older ones are getting rarer and they need a base to work on. Give them a call, Frida (Mrs Turner) is very helpful and knows her stuff.

If LR petrol engines, and improving them, are of interest there's a good debate between Richard Turner and ?Roland of ACR, vendor of a 2.8 petrol and 2.25/2.5 cam, carb and head upgrades (as above). Personally I side with Turner in this argument, and am seriously thinking of getting one of Turner's 'performance' heads for my 2.5 petrol.

Thanks for the info!

It's for a 200tdi so yeh becoming harder to come by.

I too keep thinking about a turner head. Mine needs the valve seals changing and it is not suitable for running on unleaded petrol. However, experience has taught me that when you start taking bits off the engine, you discover all sorts of other bits that need replacing such as cam followers etc. Also at 60 with a very weak back, whipping the head off is not something I look forward to. I think the main reason for not wanting to send the original head off toTurners is because some folk want to keep their landy and engine as original as possible. I already have a spare head ready to send when I eventually work myself up to it.

They'll need to core for further reman no doubt, but prob price up without dirty unit going back. I have nothing but good things to say about them from buying a new TD5 head some time ago - very helpful, excellent quality, great delivery/service. Good luck, A

When I rebuilt my engine I bought most of the parts from Turners. As said above they are great to talk to (Frida takes calls and does the admin and is very knowledgeable) if she is unsure she asks hubby. Nothing seems to be too much bother. Frida has replied to my emails at 10pm before! Obviously, I was expecting a day or two for a reply, not the same night  High standard, quality company in my opinion and experience.

yeah i brought my engne parts when i rebuilt my 200tdi from them, happily use them again. great service. If you visit the place its floor to ceiling of stuff all piled up and blokes working on engines in the middle of it all its amazing, but frida has the most amazing encyclopedia parts number brain and just plucks stuff out of boxes even if you just give a vague description and gets it right every time......

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be sending my head to them.

Will keep you all posted. I do love a shiny new part
