Turbo intercooler upgrade

I have no knowledge specific to that intercooler, but an intercooler which will allow the air passing through it better cooling and an increase in the volume of air to passing through it will aid the power delivery.
Cooler air has a reduced volume so this entering the combustion chamber allows for greater expansion at combustion result more power.
This increase in power is not going to be mind blowing but never the less will be there, you are more likely to increase the available torque.
After fitting the intercooler the induction system can deal with an increase in fuel and still retain an ideal fuel to air ratio (having available more air).
After fitting the intercooler making changes to the pump to deliver more fuel and then increasing the turbo boost now the power will be extremely useable.

yes i have, but i bought the bigger 115mm deep core. They are not a straight swap and you have to cut the rad frame to fit them. Did allow me to turn up the fuelling a bit more.

also, I paid almost half that for my bigger one!

Pointless unless you're going tune the pump, silicone hoses etc, no?

silicon hoses arent a necessity, they are just bling

But the intercooler itself wont particuarly do anything different to that of an OEM one unless you go for more fuel etc on the pump

Thanks, for the info.I have seen some cheaper from China. I recently changed my Rad and I was wandering if I should change the Intercooler. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the one that's on there. I am planing another trip to Morocco next spring and just thought if the rad needed changing maybe I should change the Intercooler also. I'm not looking for any big increase in power as my 200tdi seems to pull along quiet well, other than on long hills. I thought the upgrade might just give it a bit more oomph. Think I will go for one.

i have heard of some of them cracking, but i have had no issues on mine (yet)

Also havent had it through the road salt so next winter will see how well it stands up to it.

i looked at them intercoolers but went for the alisport one, the inlets on the alisport ones are curved instead of having a welded angle, which to me is a smoother air flow through the cooler

no need to upgrade it then. as long as you aren't mucking about with the fuel pump and it doesn't leak.. then keep it. maybe give it a clean out if dirty

Plenty of point to it! Tweaking the pump to match the enlarged intercooler is well within the pump and engine's tolerances and is pretty much your only chance of improving performance and keeping things as standard as possible.

I bought the upgrade Turbo intercooler. They are not big bucks and I will have piece of mind that its been changed when on my next Morocco trip. It should arrive next week. I will see if there is any difference in performance when fitted.
The old one is 25 years old. I will report back on here when fitted.

Of course. I just don't think tweaking the pump and adding a larger intercooler and silicone hoses is keeping things standard. Semantics.
