Turbo Gauge. whats it supposed to do then??

Just stuck in me turbo gauge, reads boost fine, up to about 18psi if its accurate, but never a vacuum.

Now, 2 things strike me,
1, does a deisel never create a vacuum?
2, have I installed it in the right place. there 2 pipes coming off the turbo, one goes to the wastegate, the other dissapears off round the back of the engine, not sure what its for, but this is the one i tapped into, mainly cause its further from the turbo/eggsauce/heat, wondered if thisun has a one way valve or summat in it stopping it registering a vacuum.

fairy nuff, I knew 18psi is pretty good, 300tdi is boosted to about 1.2bar, so about 17/18ish.

all is good, shoulda got a gauge with no vaccum reading on it, was only £6 though. needed summat to fill the hole, decided boost was more useful than tach.
 
well, it does, but it doesnt, egr is there, but disconnected from everything, its sealed well, so not bothered blanking it off yet.

I have a boost gauge, but would like an oil pressure and oil temp gauge that's combined, and a volts gauge and a egt gauge to be safe,
 
Wont produce any measurable intake depression (vacuum) as there is no throttle body to restrict the air entering the intake. Might get a very small amount due to the restriction of the air filter but that's about it. Petrol is different because the butterfly in the throttle body stops air getting in hence vacuum.
