Turbo failure ?

It sounds like your engine mounts have failed. The engine is well insulated from the body and shouldn't vibrate it like you describe. My TD4 is does have more vibration than my old V6, but that's an unfair comparison as the V6 is so vibration free.
But in general, the Freelander should be pretty quiet and free from excessive vibration.
But just the noise on tick over is horrendous, under bonnet still has insulation in place, when you pull away the noise doubles, vibrates through wheel and all pedals. Not sure what mounts I can get here although I've seen an ad for main dealer ( Robin bastardos ) I believe.
Will worry about test first and if she passes will slowly put things right.

Forgot to mention, am back in the Uk in two months so if I need mounts I will buy there with your advice.
How many mounts are there ?
How much are they so I can compare with spanish ones.
Think my garage said the one near the water pump ( sure he ruined it ) would cost 50 € supply and fit.

+1

It sounds like exactly the behaviour I got with a Bearmach engine mount.

I'm not sure what to recommend because an original LR engine mount is stupid money and the aftermarket one I tried was useless.

You could possibly try an aftermarket engine mount and tie bar bush - there's a thread going about that at the moment.

Maybe see if you can get 1 from a breakers - mine is 19 years old and still serviceable - although I think its probably stiffened up over the years and is causing clutch judder.

I wonder if your local grease monkeys have damaged the arm coming off the engine to the mount - maybe tried to remove it and broken some of the bolts holding it on.

I haven't a clue how you can tell if the turbo and its components (wastegate?) are working. Live feed from a diagnostics device would tell you what the MAP sensor is telling the ECU - but that assumes the MAP sensor is working properly. I wonder if you could install a boost gauge?

Don't need a boost gauge, when a cyclist overtakes me up hill I know it's not working !

The main mount is on the belt/water pump end of the engine and is this...

You may find the tie bar (that connects to the top of that mount) is also perished and is this...

That is for the whole tie bar, its only the bush in it that goes and a member is currently testing with a cheap Chinese bush replacement. I just looked it up and you're on that thread...

The lower tie bar can also allow the engine to vibrate. I've got no knowledge of the mount at the gearbox end.

Many thanks great info, I know you said the part you used was rubbish but I notice they come as LR approved !
If I can get that fitted for 50€ its worth a try.

There are 3 possible reasons for it being rubbish...

1) It was rubbish.

2) I fitted it incorrectly - however, I don't think this is the case because I checked it a number of times and refitted the old 1 OK.

3) The old one was a lot stiffer. I don't know if that's how they are supposed to be or whether it aged to being that way. The new one was much softer. Whether it should have been or not, it could have relied on its tie bar to dampen more vibration and the bush in there may be shot. - I didn't remove or replace that.
