Turbo Failure

The answer is yes. You can get the Intercooler out from inside the engine bay.

Seeing as I already had the fan and cowling out I removed the rad. Much easier than taking the bumper etc off the car.

With the rad removed you can slip a flat head driver across the top of the Intercooler and lift up the plastic clips or you can access them through the front bumper.

Once released the Intercooler slips forward and can be remover by raising the right hand side up to the top and slipping the left hand side to the right. You end up with the Intercooler vertical lifting it out through the top of the bay.

You can't lift the Intercooler out horizontally because the Aircon pulley is in the way.

All that's left to do now I've got the car back together is turn the engine over with the fuel pump fuse removed to prime the turbo.

Car went back together nice and easy.

Bit of a fiddle getting the manifold gasket in place but managed to hold it in position with a screw driver through the bolt hole.

Remover both the fuel pump fuses. One on glove box and one in boot. Turned the car over until around 1L of oil had passed through the turbo and into a jug below the return pipe.

Test drive covering 240 miles complete and all is well.

If anyone is thinking of removing their turbo ignore RAVE it can't be removed from below unless you remove the subframe. Take it out via the drivers headlight with the feed and return oil pipes removed.
