Trying to diagnose coolant problem

there have bin a cupple of MLS failures too - not nearly as many - but that could be coz of a full top end check and skim whilst it is apart and a paronoic owner checkin ever 2 mins after forking out to havce it done once:eek:
 
The original £600 repair was a couple of years ago, it didn't get the modified gasket :( ; last time I ran it up the hill at Applecross (about 2,000 ft in 8 miles) it started a slow leak again, having previously been ok.:mad: I might get a sat nav that avoids gradients greater than a gentle slope :rolleyes: . This would then limit me to up and down the drive to put the rubbish out. You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. The missus likes the colour though.:) I might use it to grow my seeds in what with the water in the cubby box......

The MLS gasket was only released in March 2006

The old gaskets are crap

your hippo should take the hills in its stride, might lose a bit of power at the high altitude, but thats about it. It shouldnt overheat
 
Bugger :mad: diagnosed by garage as HG starting to go.

Stuffed now as no one with access to t'internet and anyone with any common will likely buy it. Trying to decide whether it worth getting repair done to make it easier to sell?

My HG was replaced in November 2005. Just my luck. :( . I shall keep topping up the coolant every month.

The modified head gaskets should do the trick. Be interesting to know if there are any documented cases of them failing. Elsewhere in the thread it says they've only been issued since March 2006, so they all should be still ok.

Or are they?

Local LR garage reckon they have not seen any HG problems coming back since they started fitting the new MLS gasket, but business brisk with repeat offenders who have had replacements prior to 2006. So will probably take the plunge and get it done.

Yerse ,I have. Sorry, did I fall asleep. :eek: I've read plenty about HGF over the last few months and would be interested to know about anyone elses experience with the modified head gasket, just in case I might want Santa to bring me one....:)
