Hi,

I'm new both to the forum and to Land Rover. The latter is something that I'm beginning to regret! We just changed my wife's car to a Land Rover Freelander 1.8S softback 2002. On Monday I went to put the dog in back of the car. The window lowered slightly as it should to allow the door to open, but when I shut the door, the window went fully down and stayed there rather than closing. I tried every operation to get the window to go up (interior control button, key in lock etc, etc) but to no avail. I took the car to my local garage to look at both this and a faulty demister. They found a loose wire which rectified the demister and, as the window started operating again, they assumed that all was working well. The window seemed fine last night but this morning the same problem was back. I did eventually manage to get the window up using the interior button and I took it back to the garage again to look at. Ironically it seemed to be working agian by the time that I got there. They are going to take it to an auto electrician tomorrow, but I know how these problems and costs can escalate when they're not really sure of the cause. It has been very damp in the morning (not sure if that could be a contributing factor). I'd be most grateful for any thoughts and ideas.

Hi, The 'roof off' microswitch is probably not staying engaged. This switch is designed to signal 'roof removed' which initiates the tailgate window fully lowering, for safety reasons. The microswitch is at shoulder height on the drivers side on the diagonal where the removeable roof section meets the body. I would tape the switch down temporarily whilst investigating why the softback is unable to lock the switch down constantly.

Many thanks. It's actually at the garage today. I've asked them to make this their first check. I'll keep you posted!
