As you can see in the first photo, there is a big gap between the inner wing panel and the mud guard, which i can't believe is correct.

I had to do some repairs to the inner wing panel, as the corners with the holes were corroded away. You can see I have pop-rivetted a couple of repair patches, which might be causing an issue. I also had to do something similar to that bracket that goes across the inside of the inner wing (not in photo), to which the mud guard end fits. Both the inner wing and mud guard are originals from this series 3.

You can see a new steering-box cover with nice new green paint at the bottom of the second photo.

I can’t work out exactly where the mudguard goes in relation to the inner wing, as I presume there should not be such a big gap i.e. which bit of the mud guard goes wheel-side of the inner wing, and which bit(s) of the mud guard goes engine side of the inner wing (at the moment, i have ALL of the mud guard wheel-side)

If anyone has a relevant photo, that would be useful.

There should be a L shaped bracket on underside of wing that mudguard bolts to.
I used some rubber door stoppers in between mud guard and footwell to make a gap so the crud doesn’t get stuck there

And the L shaped bracket in the last photo has a habit of corroding badly where the steel bolts and inner wing meet the ali bracket. I had to replace mine with a new piece of bent ali I made form some 3mm plate. I then very carful measured and equally spaced 4 rivets across the wing top to hold it to the wing and look almost like it is supposed to be there. Then I could bolt the inner wing in place properly, also gapping off the footwell as above.

Yes I think I’d replaced mine too. Didn’t think to put some plastic/rubber sheet in between as a barrier, the mud shields I got are real HD from YRM 10 years ago about £20 a side then. the angles were spot welded on originally I’ve popped on both sides still holding on
