XJSs were always nice cars - beautiful ride, tidy handlers, the post 95 ones are a cracking classic if you can find a rot free one, Ford sorted out the leaky rear window which plagued some XJSs and the last of the AJ6 4.0 was strengthened across the range to handle the XJR's (saloon) supercharging making it practically bullet-proof. I've have loads of Jags - never been let down by one (well, post 80s ones) unlike the (fairly young) Audi 100 I had for a while in the late 90s - nothing but trouble - brake failure (powered brakes) was the final straw and it had to go. Even my 89 XJ40 was totally reliable! I must have stepped in something!
