As above. I'm a bit lost for words as to how that "job" qualifies as "fitting" your windows.

Try trading standards - see if they will get involved, failing that, you might have to use the small claims court to get some redress.

He didn't pass comment but could tell he was not impressed ,called the screen firm and spoke to the bloke ,said I was ****ed and why and he had seen pics of his handy work.
Then I spoke to the fella on the phone ,who said we don't normally use a template we just mark it out in the middle of the panel,
I said that's still not right they are not in the middle .....can't argue with a f***ing idiot.

My plan is to locate some new sides I think and start again (do it myself) and try get the cost back

If any one knows of any please give me a shout ,live just outside Preston cheers lads

Mate listen, he's done you, there is a thing called a job well done. And job satisfaction.
What are you thinking, grow some, drive down there and show the Cnut your not taking no for an answer.
I can't stand these fookers just rob you fuk you off and hope you'll go away.
Also name and shame the fooker

I know some peoples temperaments are different. I for one would go absolutely ape crap. There's no way he would get away with it.
If you let him get off with it he'll think it's ok to do somebody else, principle is principle.
Why the hell would you go out and start looking at other sides, sorry but I just don't understand it.
Tell us who he is mate. Well let him know it's not on.
Us guys always get the crap from thieves to scum and robbing garages and bad press for our hobby of Greenlaning etc. There are a great set of lads who either diy or use their favoured garages.
We need stick together. Another thought guys why done we put up our favoured tried and tested garages and location, hopefully it will help problems like this from happening again.
Cheer Grez

I'd give him the 'quiet' option of all your money back plus the cost of 2 new side panels - if not then Trading Standards and Small Claims court is his choice.... I would personally not let him or his 'recommended' window guy anywhere near it to sort it out, unless RAC/AA inspected before and after...... Good luck. A

I know what you mean ,I'm not happy with the Finnish so I'm on on it.
I have orderd another template to check against the position just to make double sure ,if it does not line up with what he has done then I will get my solicitor to contact them,he is saying that it's down to the template so I need to prove otherwise first.
The company is called red rose windscreens ltd based in Bamber bridge.

Thats some good advice.
In law he has to put you back to as if you haven't had them fitted.
So pair of new sides fitted and windows back clean.
You then have the question of loss of vehicle etc.
Ask for his insurance details as you wish to make a claim for damage to your vehicle.
If I was advising him his best plan would be to pay up as the cost of fighting you will soon escalate as if you win you will then claim costs etc.
I hate to see this happen when you get a so called professional doing a job badly.

I work in retail the garage owner does not have a leg to stand on by the way if you paid by credit card then your card issuer can go after them on your behalf as other have said trading standards etc
don't let them get away with it

This is ridiculous, if the fitter had any common sense he would have at least googled a picture of a Defender before cutting the holes. Not sure if you've mentioned what the person specialises in yet? Guessing it isn't a Land Rover specialist.

The only way that I could see the template ending up anywhere near where it has would be if they had lined the bottom edge of the template up incorrectly with the bottom edge of the side capping instead of the top. However, then the upper edge of the template would be shy of the top of the panel by a couple of inches.

If I was in your shoes I would contact citizens advice and let them know what's happened, windows, template, no where near the right location, poor finish, and his response about his workers and how he tried fobbing you off plus any other communications you've had since. Then get back to him and make him aware that you won't accept the mistakes they have made or the poor standard of finish and after this experience you don't wish them to carry out any more work on your vehicle if that's possible?

Good luck, hopefully he will see the light and cough up.

Hi all bit of an update,as I said I orderd a template to try work out what the **** has gone on.
The template was correct and it all went wrong when he was preparing the template ,the perimeter of the template should have been cut away as it's waste ,as it was not this sent the window down.
I explained where it went wrong and he held his hands up and agreed that a mistake had been made.
He asked what he could do to fix it ,so both agreed the quickest solution was Masai panoramic windows.

End result ,apologie, massi panoramic windows ,rear quarters and heated rear windscreen all tinted to match ,fitted no cost.
Just glad it didint get messy and me ended up with a big bill.

NIce ,

Good end to what could have got messy, and Nice the Guy realised his mistake and owned up to the mistake "eventually" . Just a shame it had to happen in the first place.

Cheers

Although I have a County Station Wagon, so don't need any windows, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Masai in Litchfield. Ferzan, Sally and the team are great to deal with. I've had a roof rack and winch bumper off them recently, and it's been a delight to deal with them.

I wonder if their panoramic windows would help you correct this utter mess? Might be worth looking in to, as the panoramics look fantastic :)
