Transmission brake leak

Hello all,

Quick question on the transmission brake and its seal. Is there a torque for the brake drum? I looked through the pdf manuals I have and couldn't find one for the install of the drum. I am asking because I installed mine and just went snug until I could drop the split pin, the next morning I noticed a leak from around the splines. Today I pulled the drum off and am sourcing a seal but decided to through a dirty drum back on as the fluid dripped steadily with no drum. This time I thought for S&G's I would put a little more muscle on the nut of the old dirty drum and after 7 hours I don't see a leak. Am I wasting my time with a seal if it was just a torque issue? Thanks for the help.

there should be a felt seal before nut and washer ,nut should be tight ,then just nipped to align split pin ,presuming your not removing the nuts to seperate drum from drive flange

The felt seal is there and then washer and big center nut. How tight is tight? My previous install was just tightened by hand until stop then wrench for half a turn until hole lined up. This time I tightened with a ratchet until good und tight (had to hold the drum to keep from spinning). Thanks again. One step closer to being back on the road.

yes good and tight with 1/2 ratchet would be fine ,it doesnt want to be loose as well as holding drive flange tight it presses against speedo gear to ensure it turns with output shaft ,put the box in gear ,drum is normally removed using the 6 nuts and not drive flange nut
