engines ,gear boxes ,automatics ,axles ,steering boxes ,transfer boxes etc most people dont like gear boxes for some reason and if with me when i strip theres are horrified i strip it and sling it in a heap without laying parts out in order, but there very simple really

One last question lol is there a helicoil in there as standard ?
I stripped a hilux transfere case once three weeks later i binned it and bought anther one far to many bits

i`ve had success in the past when the head of a sump bolt has sheared off. by using a hammer and punch to tap anti clockwise the remaining thread out.

Would a small 3mm drill bit then working up a size not work. Then as someone said before use an easy out, you can get them from halfords. They have a tapered reverse thread cut into them so as you turn it in anti clock it digs tighter in and will spin out the drain plug. Won't damage your thread either. I've used one on a snapped rockers shaft bolt and it worked a treat.

Nah i been using a 3 mm cobolt hardened drill bit but magnets are super hard i found easy outs but im in france so no halfords but they are no good without geting a drill in but i managed to shatter the magnet using a punch but now i will have to take the cover off to make sure no bits are left inside lol ****ing nighmare why the hell do poeple do them up so tight cause the cant affort a new 20p copper washer ?

All done thank ****, dont think the oil had been changed in a long time broke a ratchet undoing the fill plug (that will teach me to use a breaker bar) just as well i check to see if all the magnet was out as the was a dirty big bit stuck to the gear
One think i dont understand is why the **** did they place the fill hole nearly behind the handbrake not as if theres no room to move it 15mm to the left typical land rover sense i suppose

I've just used a reverse thread socket similar to that mentioned above to remove a locking wheel nut for which I'd lost the key... how the f**k do I get the locking nut out of the reverse thread socket so I can do the others? I've tried various pipe wrenches but the nut is so hard none of them can get a grip on it. I have some ideas but all are flawed...

If I had bolts the same thread as the wheel studs I'd screw them in and glue or weld them to the lock nut and use a spanner... but I don't have bolts that big... or a welder!

Thought about using my angle grinder to make flats for the pipe wrench to grip... again though these things are rock hard...

Thought of heating up the reverse thread socket but don't want to weaken it...

One answer is to use an angle grinder to make flats on the wheel nut then clamp it in a vice and back it out of the socket with the breaker bar- remembering it's a reverse thread.
