transfer lever problems

when trying to select low ratio i cant get it to engage unless i remove the centre seat and push the linkage a little further . Once i have done this low ratio works perfectly . if anyone could help i would be very gratefull i just hope it is a simple adjustment and not an internal problem as i have only just bought the vehicle. any advice will help thanks
