Having trouble just getting the viscous coupling second hand as they all come with the transfer box. Is the transfer box the same on both gems and thor petrol engines I;m aware the oil burner is not
Thanks

4.0 litre petrol auto has same gearbox and transfer box as diesel. 4.6 litre petrol has different gearbox but same transfer box as 4.0 and diesel. I believe the manuals have a different input shaft into the transfer box other than that same unit. VC is same for all types.

Unless you are saving loads of money over the cost of a new VC, don't go for a second-hand one. You'll have no idea when that one is going to seize up, much more sensible to get a new one and do the job once.

Thanks warmers. I'm presuming it will need to be on ramps in the air as I've only got a pair of ramps and a drive

I changed the VC on my Classic without lifting it in the air at all. There was plenty of room under the car to do the job, so you'll have no problem using a set of ramps.

Probably yes a new one would be better but my transfer box is leaking anyway and a good clinking when taking up power so its a good idea to change both anyway

Transfer box isn't so much the issue changing a wearing part like your VC for a unknown second hand unit is false economy mate. whats to say the second hand one A) isn't seized already and B) doesn't seize in a few hundred miles...?
