Hi! Looking like i am going to have to replace my LT230 transfer box. Has anyone changed one? If so can you give me any pointers on what is involved? Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Quite easy just nuts and bolts. Propshafts off, disconnect handbrake cable and speedo drive and there are about half a dozen bolts holding the transfer box to the back of the gearbox.

Think so take the middle panel out from under the seat and have a look at how accesible the bolts etc are. Bear in mind it'll be a fairly heavy lump and you don't want to drop it.

get some long M10 studs and replace the tranny box mounting bolts with these - you can then slide the box out and along the studs - this allows you to lower it down in a much more managable manner

yes you can do it through the floor, you need to remove the transmission tunnel bit of the floor though to get to the linkages (difflock etc)

its faily easy, the biggest pain i had was getting the mounts back in, although i was changing the main box at the same time, and found that nothing is quite straight in my 90. Oh yeah, an i sheard off a bolt that i couldn't get out cos the fuel tank was in the way.

Thanks for all the advise! Changed the transfer box today which went well. However i still have the whining noise that i had before. Also difficult to disengage diff lock. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
