Trans Failsafe Prog - Gear Switch Fault

Still working through my issues and niggles with the 2002 L322 4.4, and now looking at another intermittent issue.

put key in and failsafe message appears and no drive letters on dash. key off, and on again, all ok.

sometimes does this right after starting too, or just before, but never once moving. once moving all gear changes smooth as silk.

ive been searching oniine and this forum of course and my fault code, Gear Switch Fault' might be too generic to be sure. but I am leaning towards the gear selector switch OR ignition switch.

Anyone replaced either and know how easy it is?

That or your be buying a box for it.

Ignition switch would be my bet.

Do you still get the issue if you start the engine in Neutral rather than Park?

Actually there is nothing to try. Error comes up soon as key in before I can select neutral

Today I got error several times when cold. So this evening (car not used since 8am) I put key in and out a few times real quick in case some contact was stuck. Then put in as normal and.....no error!

Do ignition switch surely looking a poss. Thing is, how do you change the switch?
