thanks, i wasnt sure if they were or not fitted on trailers.

like you say will have to make sure i dont go over the unbraked weight limit.

braked trailers work on the ball dont they, so that when i brake it pushes a bar inside the tow ball and pushes the brakes into operation

still looking at the small box trailers so that when i put camping gear in it will be secure, also will have to think of a method to secure it whilst on a camping site and we go out for the day.

could get a tow bar lock for it but thinking of how to prevent it being knicked whilst left unattaintended on site.

thanks

i dont think you far wrong there, like youve said i will just be slowing them down.

could always lock the motherin law inside, they would pay me to have the trailer back, lolol

I have a small trailer which I fully load with logs, used it this way many times with no problem. When empty I leave a heavy baulk of timber in it or a bag of sand to stop it bouncing. I keep my daughter supplied with logs which means a 130 mile round trip on the M25 many times a year.
My detachable tow bar is perfect. If Northern Irelander has one for sale - see his post -snap it up.
The only snag with a small trailer is you cannot see it from your mirrors which makes reversing hard. I fix a small flagpole at the back of the centre of the trailer which I can see from my interior mirror.
I've had many tow bars in my time, the LR detachable is the best yet.

wouldn't worry too much about the stabiliser with a small(ish) trailer. Unless you're a complete muppet with how you drive, it'll be quite happy behind the freelander.

I've got a little trailer which I use behind my td4 auto commercial, bit bouncy if empty, but you soon learn to take the right line over speed bumps - whats comfy for the freelander (straddling) means the trailer hits them perfectly full on.

had mine up to (over maybe?) the 750 kg unbraked limit, and it felt fine, couldn't really tell it was on there. reversing a littlun with a commercial is a bit of a mare, by the time you can see it in your mirror, it's too late to correct.

good luck with this.

thanks guys for the sound advice, to be honest im not bothered by the size of the trailer, am still tempted by the box trailers that are virtually the same height as the FL,

i drove a van for years without windows at the back and to be honest it might be easier to drive a bigger trailer than a smaller one.

i looked on ebay and seen where business guys have gone bust and want a few hundred pounds for them, may need some work, but as long as the chassis and axle are ok can easily rebuild the brakes etc.

thanks again for such great input really has helped me
