right weve stripped the engine down tonight ...

well nothings broken ... which is abit dissapointing ... i guess :p but still staggers me that it ran so badly and went from running fine to being so crap, with nothing seriously broken ...

the crank is intact, as is the cam, all the conrods are straight, all the pushrods are fine, headgaskets are fine, piston rings are fine ... its weird.

i mean the crank is pretty worn but not scrap, and the cam is tired, but again runable. the timing chain was pretty slack and the only thing that really confused us was, the centre crank shells are c shaped on 1 half around the casting but the other half are standard shells shaped, when dad thought they should both be c section shaped ????

so mabie this engine is salvageable the bores have a small lip but nothing to be worried about and aren't scored

thye crank wants a grind and balance but should be good to go again

the engine never breathed heavy or used oil which is a good sign

so any ideas guys why it would run so terribly without massive internal damage ? just a cunulative of worn parts throwing the timing ?

Weird. Maybe it slipped a tooth on the timing?
whats the plan. Standard rebuild?

Maybe it was just a typical **** Lucarse powered motor that went all moody all of a sudden!

im sure it wouldn't be the first time. ..

ill take the bits to my engine guy and see if they're salvageable if not id only rebuild another engine anyway so might aswell see if this one will go again

who does the best camshafts ? nothing mental just more low/ medium toque like the kent H180 is what i'm looking at

Sorry for the questions, but I really am interested ...

How did the tyres work? I expect the grip was pretty good, I saw the hill! but what about wear etc. What pressures did you run? Did they cause any problems of their own? How did the beadlocks perform? Anything you'd change from them?

cheers.

yeah the grip was excellent even in deep bogs they kept pulling :D

no real signs of wear at all, a few chips off from sharp rock but thats expected at a site like walters

i was running 18-20 psi

the beadlocks were awesome, even when we ripped the bead off the inner bead, they held the tyre on enough to get off the section and took a right bashing, we tightened all the bolts on the 2nd day though as they were all abit slack after the had bedded in

no real problems that they caused as they dont rub on the radius arms and i cut the bodywork to fit

id like to have abit more underbelly clearance as i ground out a few times and 90 degree front and rear departure angles would be nice too for future enhancements

Cool .. ;)

Yeah, Trayback would sort departure angle I guess. I thought your front attack angle looked good, but maybe it still overhangs the wheel front a bit.

Saw a cool looking mod a while ago, someone had added a couple of 2" x 2" box section 'sliders' between the front and rear diffs .. which might lose a little break-over, which might be negated by it not catching (hopefully) anywhere. They also protected the gearboxes quite well .. ;)
