New axles :D

Not going to be on soon but at least I can get them ready before they go on now :)

Had a play with the suspension and decided the front flex is ****

So I might create a 3/4 link front while im at axle building :) although ive never been held back before with axle flex so I dunno

Anyway on with front wings today just making a template :)

*Cough* Copy cat :D

But seriously, good choice!

I'm going to finish my axle build one day.. got most the parts for it, just need more time in my life!

You thought about a 1 link?

Also what you gona do on the rear, if your going to stay with the Aframe I have the weld in bung for the ball joint which I'm not using now.

:D :D

They're the best choice overall I think sailsburys are silly expensive and weigh more, and dont give you any kore steering lock which is the main thing I want :)

Yeah me and the guy who dropped them off talked about suspension, he talked about a 1 link which give crazy articulation but probably wouldn't be as stable as standard set up, id like yo do KOV next year so speed is a big part of that... well have to see :)

Yeah keeping rear a frame for now :) does that bung create the mount for the a frame or just fill in the holes from the watts linkage ?

Salisbury rear axle 4.7:1 detroit locker fitted perfect for a special motor open to sensible offers it's drum brakes but converting it is cheaper than ever before with the brackets from red winches. Could be tempted to throw in a heavy duty ashcroft front R+P 4.7 for a rover diff.

Yea the steering lock gain is a big bonus!
1 links are very stable as they give the same characteristics as radius arms. There's a guy on fb who did kov with 1 link up front... work well from what I understand. Therea lots of them Out there.

The bung is a tapered bit that u wend to the axle which accepts the ball joint like a normal axle. I was going to weld it in a hole on top of the axle on the flat part before I went 4 link. (Bare in mind that flat part is not level so needs to be welded at a slight angle to compensate)

4 link is my other option for rear but I dont honestly need any more travel my tyres already touch the arches so not much further I can go :) and thats with all standard links :)

1 link front would be interesting and fairly easy to set up. Would it meet alrc regs jai ?

How much would a rear sailsbury be jai ?

Should be ok

I think they can be fussy about where tho

A few years back there was some talk on having noting attached to a cage structure but they seem
To have relaxed and took a breath. Otherwise front wing bars and other bits were an issue and how situ buid a space frame to MSA spec.

Ps I'd you change suspension mounts from std the regs go out the window for ALRC.

KOV run different yank cage regs Ultra 4 regs You need a cross bar side protection bar for example from memory.

Problem is one build cannot do it all as ever, add to that making it road legal depending on year then your always building a compromise.

Young Ed Barnes took part in his trialer in 2013 did ok we suggested he weld his rear diff which he did but the front he blew a shaft. He overtook a few modified motors but utimaty got stuck when he blew a shaft/diff the edited footage showed him being overtaken and never him going past other £££ trucks. Not bad for 33 inch 80 inch trialer

There will only be 3/4 on the front hoop the rest will be on the tubular wings I dont see a problem eith it anyway, it could be done with jubilee clips thpigh if I needed too but would be abit of a farse to do. Tags is so much easier.

Currently ive got full standard mounts and can keep them even with D2 axles by using 90 radius arm mounts. Theres no reason I cant meet all regs.

The side bar protection can be got around (well if its the same as this year by having a welded rock slider between the front outrigger and rear a frame cross member. A few guys did it this year.

My plan is to keep it as low cost as possible but be reliable and hopefully competitive :)

Wish you good luck and spend some £££ on shafts even the later axles a set of 300m shafts should be ultra reliable. Fact you have a v8 its a lot smoother power delivery than a harsh snatch the clutch diesel if it's auto even better less aggressive.

Yeah V8 auto so very smooth power delivery :) I tend to quit when my wheels start spinning and I stop moving anyway which helps the shafts :)

Watched a few of V8 nidges videos last night on diffs pegging would be a good upgrade not sure on HD Cw&p yet seems to me if your pinion bearings fail it can chew up everyghing anyway so is it worth spending huge money on diffs hmmm

Teah ill upgrade to ashcroft units for KOV for sure the HD D2 cvs are immense and gets me most of the way to firce 9 strength. I won't be running anything over 35 inch anyway so theyre not going to get stupid punishment :)

I've done a single peg for my trials motor it's a mechanical fix far superior to hd cwp because it has to keep it in mesh. Also even hd cwp were nowhere near the material spec LR used but designed to run the correct rotation now ashcroft have upped the material
Spec again so closer to LR originals.

Pinion bearings don't just fail so if it's setup not old and worn then shoud be grand.
