Trace the owner via chassis number

Hi,
There is an landrover defender 110 in my local area, and I want to find the owner.
I have the chassis number, along with the REG number, CON number, CODE number, and the NSN number. However, there are no plates on the vehicle. I've tried to contact the DVLA, but they were little help, as without the plates, they said there was nothing they could do.
I will be trying to contact the land owner at the end of the week, to see what they know, as it's been there for a few months.
Is there any way I can find the owner of the vehicle using these details?

With the plates and it not being your land there is little the Dvla or whatever they are calling them selves now can do anyway (legally). So without em you ain't gonna find out from them. Unless the landowner wants to help you I can't see it happening.
 
if there are no plates on the vehicle how do you have the reg number?

and if you have the reg what difference would plates being on the vehicle or not make?
 
Ok, thanks, I was hoping there was a way of find via the chassis number, I'll just have to hope the land owner knows something now.
When I said REG number, I meant from the identity plate that is riveted on, is it the same as the plates? I couldn't find much information about that.

oh I see, no idea if its the same number, reg number to me means whats on the number plates.

I do recall a thread - in the series section - some years back relating to somebody wanting to do the same with a seemingly abandoned vehicle but I think they were the landowner and they tried to get in touch with the previous registered keeper or the dvla did.

trouble is if you involve the landowner they might nick the vehicle for themselves if the registered keeper can't be found I think the landowner might be able to claim it.

You must be the land owner or agent thereof to claim a vehicle abandoned.

that's what I thought, but the person in the second thread I put up wasn't the landowner but claimed the vehicle, it did have its reg number though and the chap didn't go into any detail as to how he got it put into his name, so it may have been with the then registered keeper or landowners consent.

Yeah, I know that the land owner can do that, but it's my only lead right now, and it's a shame to let it rot. It's been there for a few months, but it's only become accessible recently as the land next to it was a building site with security, and they chased anyone off who came close, but security left about 2 weeks ago, and already someone has vandalized it, so I wanted to see if I could find the owner and purchase it off them, and fix it up.

You can do it without, and get a v5 but then ownership rather than registered keeper can be an issue.
 
As luck would have it, I spoke to one of the security guys who worked on the site next to the land, and he thinks he knows who's it is. Not sure how much I trust him, but I'll update this thread if anything comes of it, I'll still try and contact the land owner at the end of the week
 
I think you may be able to do a hpi check with the chassis number and it should bring up the reg number that's on it and anything eles of interest,

I don't know for sure so do some searching 1st
