Howdy guys, question time.

I'm looking at a tyre change and I've narrowed it down to the above two types. Anyone got any comments favoring one over the other? I've looked through the forum and seen older posts but no updates. Any help is gladly received!

Not what you asked I know but I just had some Maxxis a/t 771 tyres put on and they are very quiet on road. Not been off road but they look ok for all but mud I would say. They were waaaay cheaper than bfgoodrich or general.
 
Ahhhhh cheers for that! Hadn't seen these. They look similar to the Toyo's. I think I'll do some research! What sort of price did you pay if you don't mind me asking?
 
I paid £88 a corner fitted and balanced. They are quite road biased but for me ideal as ill only be off road occasionally and not green laning or anything.
 
To be honest, I'm leaning toward the general at's. A few guys I shoot with have them and they seem ok. I've found them for a shade over £100 a corner plus £10 for fitting. Whatever I buy, it'll be in the next few weeks! Cheers for your comments guys! :0)
 
I had 4 general grabbers and on my first offroad outing got two slow punctures...when I say offroad I mean muddy/rocky lane, nothing hard-core. Needless to say they were very poor in the mud...ditched the grabbers and went for BFG mud-terrains...yet to try them but the tread pattern is much deeper than the grabber all-terrains. For any serious offroading the all-terrains aren't very good at all...if muddy you get stuck and if solid dry dirt you can pass just as well with road tyres
 
I disagree with the above poster. I've had GG AT² (yes I know, not quite the same but still avail.) on several of my Discos and all I can say is that they've been perfect for my general off-road work.

If you are planning to go deep mud then you need mud tyres and without doubt in my mind the BFG Muds are the best in terms of grip on and off road, durability etc but they are more money.

You pays yer money, etc etc

To be fair my father in law swears by bfg A/T tyres over grabbers. He does lots of driving through fields for work and they cope just fine until it gets real muddy.
 
To add some balance to the discussion - I've only ever known the Toyos - they're what came on the disco. Still on there a year later, they have worn very well and yet I've had no trouble on road with grip or noise; good grip and noise is similar to that of any large car running 255 width rubber or wider.

Off road behaviour is great, for what I've put them through. It must be said that the D2's traction control may, I feel, help cover up a less aggressive tyre's shortcomings (not a bad thing!)
