Towing Noise

Hi Guys

I have a Landrover tow Bar fitted onto my Disco (52) and when i tow my caravan i get a creeky noise when ever i turn that seems to come from the connection area.

Has anyone else ever had this as i have towed before and never had this issue before. I only picked up the Disco last week and this past week is the first time i have towed with it.

Anyone with towing experiance who can perhaps shed some light on the most likely problem would be of great assistance..

check all fitting bolts on towbar fitment and make sure they are tight, also see if the coupling on the caravan is dry, people tend to forget that they need greasing occasionally. you can allways tell if someone doesnt tow regularly as theire tow hitch/ball is dry and rusty.
and yes for all of you funny buggers i have had dry balls in my life!:D

Bang on.The new alko balls se friton on the ball to stablise the rig.The old bull dog types creaked as well but from a slightly different place.You should have a wear indicator next to the hitch on the van.
 
clean you,re towball with some fine emery. then clean coupling with brake cleaner job sorted, wat causes noise is you.re stabilizer not gripping the ball because of the fine layer of rust. had it loads of times with my van drives u nuts when u forget. p/s don,t but any lube on.
 
could be the damper on the van it's self, they sometimes creek but only when they been on a few years,
are the linkages greased? they do need greasing every year well thats what the book says, load of bolix if ya ask me:rolleyes: i do mine every other year

whereever theres a grease nipple ram some grease in there an hope for the best:rolleyes:
but DO NOT grease the tow ball if it has a friction pad stabliser:eek:
 
It's a standard Landrover towing fitting. (triangular shape) - the pad indicator is shower them on full with no wear at all.
 
seeing as the stabaliser is brand new it might need a bit of bedding in, doesnt sound much to worry about, however as with anything regular checks are a good idea
