Hi
we've bought a second hand Jap import Trooper Irmscher 3.1td swb for towing
(waiting for new Ranger to be delivered in May), not off-roading. The
previous owner fitted really big tyres (265x75x16) to make it sit even
higher.
Will these tyres have any adverse impact on towing? or should I go back to
the standard size (245x70x16)?
Grateful for any advice.
Regards
Ken

the higher profile and larger tires will mean the engine will work a bit
harder to pull things, the larger size means the vehicle rolls further with
each turn of the wheel. but the engine fires the same number of times.
leading to less power prouduced per mile traveled. In effect it's doing the
same thing as changing the ratios in the diffs, and theres a reason "Towing
Packages"often include a smaller diff ratio.

I'd go back to standard for towing, and if it's an auto it may pay to ensure
theres a tranny cooler installed.
