I got a mobile mechanic to replace my starter instead of doing it myself (I blame my arthritic fingers & thumbs and the bad weather, else I would have done it myself, honest).
Anyway, 2 weeks later I removed the top cover to clean the MAP sensor and found 2 other issues...
1. immediately to the left of the dipstick I noticed the glow-plug cap/lead was off. With a torch, I found it tucked down near the starter, reached in to retrieve it and refit, and that's when I noticed below this was the top of the starter - and ...
2. the top nut on the starter was not there. Yes, the nut hated by so many, including my mobile mechanic, clearly.
It did take him about 90 minutes to do the job, I assume he didn't relish having to get that nut back on and so just left it...
My question is -should I just leave it as-is, knowing that I'll have an easy job if the starter fails in years to come?
Or is it not safe/secure with just 2 fixings.? and complain about 1&2 & get him back to fix it. ?
Disco has been starting and running nice (and even better since doing the MAP and wastegate/turbo pivot, which I already posted about in another thread) so in daily-runner terms, I didn't notice the glow-lead or missing nut, at all.
So I'm only slightly annoyed about this, and mostly at myself for not being more on-the-ball...
