hi everyone
noticed that my water was down a couple of inches in the expansion tank and a few drips of water were on the road under my car so i traced it back to the top rad to engine hose ...looked like someonehad shortened the pipe and filled with silicone ,so i got a new one and put it on this morning but it leaked worse..the problem is the tin sleeve that the hose goes on has a split right underneath...is this part seperate from the head or am i looking at anew head ? its obvious that its a differant metal but i cant see a join....it looks like a internal sleeve thats put in from the inside but im not sure... has anyone else fixed one of these before ie ptfe tape, bicycle innertube or chemical metal...or any ideas, the crack goes from the end right to the block...cheers peeps

I assume P38...and a diesel one at that....!!!

How do I know, I looked at your profile page....

It helps to put the vehicle details down, to help those in the know assist in the best possible way....

That said, I can't help as I have not experienced this previously....

Maybe it would help if you could attach a photo of the item in question....as a picture paints a thousand words.

I assume your issue is where the pipe attaches to the engine side and not the radiator side....

I wish you luck, and I hope you get an answer that will assist.

sorry chaps yes its the engine side of the top rad hose and im clueless with loading pics sorry

I have attached and colouered a pic of the Two(?) top hoses on the M51 Engine....

One is connected to the Thermostat housing (Number 2) and the other to the engine block (Number 5)

Which one is the issue??

It dissapears under the plastic inlet manifold cover, so not sure wehre is goes from there....I am just about to fire up the MicroCAT Parts catalogue which has exploded views of things to see if I can see something on that...

I now have grease on my forehaed according to the girlfriend...

lol ..thankyou for this ...i had the pipe off earlier and it slides over a pressed tin sleeve that goes into the block ....confused me abit as i cant see a join ???? dont know if its replaceable or im gonnahave to gaffa tape it to death lol :D

OK....Looking at the Parts Catalogue, I think it fits onto the item I have boxed in the drawing below....

Looks to be part of the Cylinder Head - as it doesn't have a part number of its own....

It could be a interference fit of different metal, but without seeing it in the metal, I couldn't be sure....

Often times the Hose connection points are discoloured to a yellowy - goldy - bronzey colour due to corrosion and other effects, which is what you may be consiering as tin....

Sorry to be the bearer of what could be bad news, but I think it is part of the Cylinder Head....you could sleeve it with something...

Anywho, sorry I couldn't be much more help...best of luck dude.
