Top end power - help

Hi.
I've noticed a lack of top end power on my 95 disco 1.
On motorway it just isn't right. Also get a hot exhaust or excess diesel smell.
Had a brief look today and I have a hi note tap from the injector pump.
Also feel knocking from the injector pipes. More on no. 2.
Blocked or duff injector or faulty ip?
How do I diagnose please. Many thanks..

Had another look.
Ask intercooler pipes seem fine.
The knocking seems to be worse when warm and is quite bad on the pipe for injector 2 and not so bad on number 4.
1 and 3 seem fine.

sounds like faulty injectors get them checked out by specialist.

I kind of hoped it was.
Do you or anyone else know if the auto injector ERR3338 will work in a manual tdi?
I'm guessing not?

I've done the valve clearances today and still got the noise. I've taken a video and will try and post it so you guys can hear it.
I've cracked open each injector in turn while running but that didn't stop it.
I'm thinking lift pump but I just can't determin where the noise is coming from?

You guess correctly - the injection pressure is much higher in the EDC autos - it's where the "extra power" comes from.... so the "Normal" VE FIP will not work them properly.....

My 300 had them in a while ago - massive decrease in noise, and significant increase in economy - so, well worth it IMHO.

You could try swapping injectors, put noisy injectors in 1 and 3 and see if noise moves with them

Taking injectors out today or tomorrow to get them cleaned.
We'll see if that works. It's off the road now due to a ruptured steering pipe. I'm waiting for that to be delivered

Injectors out and being cleaned.
Got four known good ones in to keep me on the road.
Still got the noise though
It sounds like under the injection pump. But my hearing is terrible.
I'm guessing lift pump, injection pump or something under the injection pump.
Maybe a hole in a pipe or something?

Drove the car today and it looks like the performance issues have been solved with the temporary injectors.
Still got the tapping noise though so I guess they are unrelated.

I've heard a few 300's with Piston slap..

Or maybe it is Diesel knock..

An automotive stethoscope helps to pin down noises.

Especially on Diesels.
