tool needed for replacing external cross member screws

please could you tell me what tool ie screwdriver i need to replce some slightly rusty external screws,they are the same as the hinge screws.Also i am building up a basic toolkit ,i have the spanners 8-19mm what sockets would you gus reccommend

You will probably need a hammer, a full socket set, a nuther hammer a bigger than the first, an impact driver, and a bloody big hammer!

Frigging hell tools well you are going to get a lot if different answers.

but if your starting from nothing.

This is a good starting point or something similar and do from there.
but as mentioned you cant have enough hammers and you definitely can not have a hammer which is too big.

sounds like some have got some good kit, but,
landie owners need basic sheet metal working tools like,
small & larger carver clamps (3), and good oldfashioned G clamps (4)
oh, and I have a bucket of various types of mole grip clamps for even more sheet metal welding.
why bucket?
coz if I put them in another cantilever tool box, the wide mouth versions wont let the tool box shut.
seasy in a bucket, just chuck `em in..
oh yea, although I got a couple of torque wrenches, my big huge HI torque tool is 5 foot lump of scaffold pole.
and yes, I do roughly know how much torque I can generate by using it,
by using my hands & arms as a grunt o meter

hmm selection of hammers ( since i got me series in febuary ) me hammer collection has mushroomed

i have

ball pein hammers in 12oz 16oz 28oz 1lb and 2.1/2lb weights
claw hammer 12oz 18oz and 21oz weights
lump hammer 1lb 2lb 2.5lb 3lb 4lb and 4.5lb weights
scutch brick hammer ( dunno where from but its great fer ****ting comedy welds off )
pannel beating hammers 4 flat square head various sizes and weights 2 round flat heads ( antiquated to say the least )
set of over a dozen homemade pannel slapping spoons ( found in a skip )
pannel beaters dollys soap bar shape teardrop shape curve shape and half cannonball with snub handle on the back
welders hammers 10oz short pecking hammer 16oz long pecking hammer with wedge back
mallets made from wood, leather,plastic, copperhead and iron lead shot filled dead weight hammer

still wish i had a set of soft steel or brass hammers and would love a full set of drifts or an andvil to go with this lot

basic tools, good socket set, good set of spanners hammer, decent screwdrivers, grease gun.

thats what I have started with, will buy the other stuff as a I need it (bought circlip pliers last week for the UJs)

A good set of 6 point sockets and spanner for rusty bolts/nuts

you dont need that many tools for one vehicle ,your better off buying decent quality more expensive individual sockets and spanners for jobs as you go ,for instance 14mm bihex for brake discs 1/2 bihex for caliper bolts ,if 300 tdi it would have a lot of flange head bolts and very decent sockets are better if you dont want to round head ,but you would only need 10mm 13mm 15 mm expensive ones other sizes could be managed with cheaper stuff ,quality impact driver with several bits will take sockets too like this ,if you say which vehicle age etc i can give you a list

love my angle grinder & box of thin disks,
dont kow how I could have managed without them when I "rebuilt" the underneath my disco.
used the grinder today to remake a spotlight bracket that had became detatched,
grinder/metal/mig welder/spraycan for 1st cote - light on, poured with rain stopping play.

still got a bloody sledge hammer welded on a lump of gas barrel for when I used to do banger racing all them bloody years ago..
had to weld metal pipe on as i kept braking the wooden ones when re arranging bodywork between races..
hit anything that was hard and it nearly shook your hands orf tho`... :doh:
