Hi All

Im considering a TD5 , its a 2002 facelift model , automatic .

The car I viewed has been parked up for a few months . It started great and the engine ran smooth , however some lights stayed on , I think the lights relate to the auto transmission , two green lights along the bottom of the binnical , the other light is for the air suspension , ABS , brake pad/fluid ? and hill desent .

On a test drive the car was sluggish and the transmission felt lazy .There was no brakes , pedal going to the floor and very little stopping power .

With the car running I coiuld hear what sounded like the air suspension compressor running , but the ride heigh did not change . The car sat level before I started it so I can assume the air bag springs are not leaking .

Should I walk away from this car ? or if I can buy it for circa 2000 euro is it worth fixing

Sorry about the long first post and thanks for reading

2000 euro's, gives us a clue, your not in GB! where is your location, somebody may be near you or not! things do go wrong wih em , but arn't that expensive to fix, but depends where you are?

If you did the test drive with the s/m lights on there are indeed the auto box and it tells ya you are in limp home mode 3rd gear only If its been sat for a while ,that could just be because of a poor battery , xyz switch , but could def do with a good oil change 1st . Did you try the air surspenion to see if it lifted off the dash button , and how were all the oil levels under the hood? Ace,' power steering, brake, and the big thing to check out is rear chases for rust ,

thanks for the replays ,
the cars in County Meath Ireland .
I did try the air suspension the car didnt react to any button pressing and i could hear a pump running i assume this was the air compressor .
I have made an offer on the j**p of 2000 euro , I dont expect the seller to accept but who knows .
My reasoning is if I buy at this price it would leave me able to spend up to another 2000 and the j**p would still be on par .

There are lots of threads on here on how to deal with those issues, you're not the first to see them...

and it is never referred to as a 'Jeep' - they're nasty Merkin things, as are other things, but that is by the by ... it is a Landy / Landie or Disco :D

and don't forget to go to the intro section and smile nicely - have fun in the Looney Zone :D

As per the above advice though might be better to get someone that knows landys to take a look. From what you say the problems are more electrical rather than mechanical and shouldn't be difficult to sort out. Start with the injector loom/ecu, check for oil getting into the ecu (plenty of info here if you search). This is generally where problems start, then it's a process of elimination.

Don't ever call a landy a 'jeep', you will be as popular as a fart in a space suit after a vindaloo, it's a landy. And welcome to the forum!

You say buying this for 2000 and spending another 2000 will put it on par with other discos, in that case just buy another disco for the 4000 which isnt going to be a money pit. Although all the problems sound like standard disco problems you never know it could be something more serious. Question you got to ask is why has the car been parked up and left and why is the owner not spending the money to repair it and moving it on themselves.

Thanks for the helpful replays ,

I havent gotten any word back on my offer , I probably wont be accepted .

The Disco ( See I didnt use the word again ) has been parked up because the owner moved to Aus with his family .

If my offer is accepted and the issues are all electrical then Id be sorted , Im an Auto electrician by trade .

Thanks again for all your help , and sorry about that word , lol
