Tips for removing rusty floor screws

if you have a good soldering iron the type you heat with a blow torch you can heat the screw head to melt the plastic retainer and they should pull out

I just purchased some easy outs, they were only a couple of quid so fingers crossed I can get at least one screw out with them, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that

Lads apologies for keeping this thread going but if I get underneath my defender and pull the plastic square nuts off could I just knock the screw up from underneath or not that simple?

Have you got some biggish side cutting pliers? You could chop them up from underneath. They'll pull through the square hole in the floor plate better if you can chop them up a bit.
Thank you AL I’ll give that a go, to put the new plastic nuts on do I need to push them through from above like a wall plug? If so I didn’t realise that and silly me, luckily so far I haven’t had to replace any of them as the originals have stayed put whilst I’ve undone the screws

Best regards

Yes, you do. They have a lip around them to hold them in place when you push them in to the holes. Then, as the screw goes on, they expand in to the hole. As you say, just like a rawl plug.

I just removed this plastic nut thank you chaps, and then realised after removing the screw that I’d have to remove the floor panel completely to get the plastic nut into the ridge,( which I don’t fancy doing) luckily in the kit I have from yrm is the metal clip things so I used one of them instead between the bulkhead and floor I hope this is ok? It certainly looks nice from underneath and screwed down nicely, only one more to do now but the plastic nut is right above the chassis so will be a lot more tricky to get to

Yes, they'll be fine. They're stainless aren't they?
