So todays job is static then dynamic timing. Mine has the single pointer on the crank case pointing to the crank pulley. But for the life of me i cant find any marks on the crank pulley. So couple of questions, are the marks on the pulley edge nearest or furthest from the engine. Are the marks very obvious or easily covered by rust, paint, visible by poor eysight?

Thanks

Nearest the engine if i recall, a little nick, probably full of crud. Dab of tippex or similar helps
Thanks....wire brush time. Is it a nick or are there small marks instead with 6,3, TDC 3 ATDC, 6ATDC? Engine is military recon with a 5 MB oil filler (cant guarantee its 5 MB.

There's a nick on the engine side of the pulley. I have a 1974 Series 3, and it has three or four different fixed pointers. You only have one pointer? It was difficult to see the nick, and I can't see it without a powerful workshop light. I set the static timing to what I thought was 6 degrees BTDC. The engine still had a misfire. I got a LR specialist to do the dynamic timing and he said it was 10 degrees out!
Good luck.

Right so 10 mins on my back with a wire brush, screwdriver and up and down to rotate the engine finally found the marks on the pulley....6 degrees ATDC to 6 degrees BTDC.....now where is the tipex?
