Timing cover thingy part 2

I am doing the timing cover gasket and am putting it all back together. I managed to shear a bolt as I did it. Luckily it sheared out of the block and in the timing cover itself. I went to get a new one and was quoted £40.00 for a pack of 5. Apparently they only come as a pack of 5. Any one else had this problem, and does anyone have any spare they can sell on to me. They are not standard thread apparently !!!!

It's all hassel, but what do you mean not a standard bolt thread is it something new. Take one of the other bolts or the broken one to a nut & bolt supplier (look in yellow pages) or an auto parts or a engineering hardware shop and get a replacement.. I just got two stainless steel M10 nuts & bolts from a nut/bolt supplier for 90p so you won't pay much for a single bolt.
Good luck with your quest.

Its a flanged bolt with a course thread on it. I have been on fleabay and internet. I think it is imperial rather than metric. Sorry to be a bit woolley but am not that clued up on this stuff. Have decided to learn the hard way !!!
You reckon I could get it local I will have a go.
Cheers anyway !!

I don't think the genuine timing cover bolts are that expensive, but then I didn't break any on mine. The sump bolts weren't bad to buy, even the longer ones into the gearbox, we bought a full new sey as the sump had been changed from tin to alloy but the bolts hadn't.

As Discool says, they are all unified. The water pump bolts have 3 with different lengths and head sizes, watch out for those as well.

ffs Stuvie.
I expected to hear the V8 roar when I got back from me ollerdee, not more tales of woe!
You didn't use me big breaker bar on it did yer?

Nah. All going well until I thought I would tweek the bolt a bit as the instructions on the Hylomar said and it went.
Surprised at how easy it was to ping, as you know I am hardly mister muscle
Chris phoned his supplier who quoted the mad price. Trouble is I am slow enough but having to stop and start to fit around all the other stuff. Hey Ho. Hope weekend OK.
