Series 3 Timing chain question

Hi everybody
Typically how long timing chains in series 3 last? Do they give any signs before causing trouble? Any idea as how to check them without specialized tools?
Chain is the one thing that has never been touched on my truck and for some wierd reason it is starting to worry me. I am at about 130,000 km (if the odometer of former owner could be trusted).

They stretch, there are dimensions in the manual, take off the timing cover to check.

If it's running, it's probably fine. It won't break

Mine rattled for about 10 years, when I got round to changing it there was probably still another 10 years left in it. As @Wildefalcon says if it's running it's fine.
