Hi ,
Currently doing the timing belt on my 300 tdi .
According to the manuals u set the tension using a dial torque wrench which ain't cheap , considering using a point torque wrench.
Anyone got any tips thoughts on the subject .
Cheers in advance

I have used a pointer type with no problems, remember to turn the engine over by hand, two rotations of crank pully to settle belt and re tension.

Just used a normal torque wrench on mine,
But I did tension it, spin it x2 and torque it again. Did it twice.

Amazing the amount of slack it developes after a couple of turns while the pulleys settles

Yep I've order a point type off Draper only 17 quid just abit dubious as will only be trying to tension to 10 lbs per foot on a nearly 0.5m wrench , shud be like measuring wiv a bit of wet string .
Probably over thinking the job thou

On doing the belt and rotating the crank two turns to check noticed belt on fip was over the front edge of the pulley, ( this is with the modified crankshaft pulley) any way re adjusted tension from 10 lbs per foot to 20 lbs per foot still the same after 2 turns .
Put a straight edge across camshaft pulley to fip pulley which showed that the camshaft pulley is quite a bit wider than the fip pulley is this why the belt is over the edge of the this pulley as its leveling its self up with the wider pulley? Cannot remember if it was like that before I removed old belt

All good now .... spun the engine & belt has settled on fip pulley
