P38A Thor engine oil pump

Second making sure it's primed by removing the fuel pump relay then turning over a dozen times with oil in. If it was me I'd change the whole front cover as they do get scored and they come as an assembly at a reasonable price. So that includes front cover oil pressure switch and relief valve also crank seal. Don't overdo the silicon on the gasket and change your oil/filter shortly after.
Why are you changing this?

Oil light come on and stayed on oil level ok and running fine now top end very noisy
 
This sounds a bit more serious than just swap oil pump to me but try it you never know. Look if the rockers have been changed as these can bleed pressure away if there cheap replacements. Try to check the bearings but I'm guessing your trying for a quick cure not an engine out.

A big end that's shot on it's own won't turn the light on. That's annoying it's happened though some investigation may prove useful a rebuild may be imminent.
 
My bet is rockers as your top end is noisy you will be amazed how much the oil ways crud up and the caps collapse.
Rocker covers off and rocker shafts out is a simple job. I did mine a short while after my hg on inspection of the rockers they were bolloxed. Made such a difference to noise level you wouldnt think it was the same engine.

I agree rockers can wear severely . Check them in situ by sliding to the side and feeling underneath for a deep ridge. It will have one it's just how deep! I've found replacement problematic as good uns are not easily available and originals are vastly expensive. The replacement is easy though. Finding quality rockers and shafts needs some research(see bike teachers thread)
 
When I reconned mine I put a new shaft and steel rockers on one side. So poor was the tolerance the oil pressure light immediatly came on. I went to Charles a r/r breakers brought a used one for a tenner fitted it.....job done. Rimmer's will show what's available.steel ones are so the pads don't fall off.
