This could be a stupid question...

was just thinking 2 front facing seats and either bulkhead or "roll cage" type bar running across as support...?

Yep that'd do it. If access is being gained from the rear you may have to section off the centre isle to make easy access to the second row of seats.

If you are planning to gain access from the front you may find a bulkhead there that could scupper your plans.

If I were you, and you can get hold of it for that price, I'd just go for it and not worry about putting passenger seats in. You can always fit benches (if it doesn't have them already). Forget the doors, it'll cost you well over £500 in parts including fixtures and fittings alone. Door pillars and the like aren't cheap, especially if you buy them new. You've got a door at the back which should be perfectly sufficient. I don't know about the legalities of how many doors you need for a soo many seater vehicle, but a coach only technically has one or two doors (and at least one emergency door). You'd have three! If they want their own private door, tell them to feck orf, they should be happy to have the privilege of traveling in such comfort and style

yeah the doors is a waste of time..id say ill probably just bolt in seats and weld in mounts for seat belts and have a strut brace going behind the seats in the back for support...thats safe...should pass any test!!

brian dont know if you've seen it on donedeal but there's a lad breakin a 110 csw v8 in mayo, the jeep is in great nick by the looks of it, his reason for breaking is the mad vrt on it! might be good for what your after!

I think given your trucks age u may find you don't even need seat belts mate. I basically had the same dilema as you I have a 110 commercal. I decided that side facing seats would be better as you can tip them up and have all the qualities of a van and a bus. You know you can get like 8 people in the back and three in the front, lol. :)

If you do want belts they are about 15 quid each and are only lap belts. Easy to fit. I do like that defender though. I would save money ****ing about and buy some parts for your landy instead or work up the engine. The belts have spreader nuts so no need to weld mate or anything like that. The other option you could go for is two forward facing rear seats that fold down with seat belts. I know these are not the cheapest things to buy but atleast you can fold them away and still have use of the load bay.

I think people are right in saying you dont need seat belts for the age but it all depends on how comfy and how safe you want your passengers.

The other option is to get a center seat set out of a county and fit it backwards - back to back with the front seats. Solves the doors problem and seat belt mounts (lap belts) would be easy and more than enough.

Best of luck

Will keep it in mind Larry.

Yeah id say ill be better off with benches, way cheaper tax...but if i do put in seats, it will just be 2 forward facing fold ups id say. Sidefacing seats would do the job nicely, fold em up and you have a nice open load bay!

Yeah ill try avoid the seatbelts if i can, no real need for them. Rand the Dept. of Transport yesterday and will get a call bout the legality of seatbelts in a pre 1990 Defender...I'll post up the info when i get it, should be useful

Can you give us an update from the Dept of transport, In in a similar situation as you....
