L322 Thinking seriously about buying an L322 3.0 TD6 - advice please?

Hi guys, I'm giving very serious thought to buying an L322 diesel and I'm looking for advice about this vehicle.

What are the known issues/things to avoid etc. I'm an experienced LR owner having had maybe 5 TDi's and the same amount of TD5's, so I accept that owning old LR's requires a certain package of personality faults !!!!

I think the most common and most expensive fault is the auto box on these.

But do a search on)l322 buying advice and you'll learn a lot.
I toyed with upgrading my p38 but the gearbox issue has put me off short term. Maybe when prices drop a bit further and I can go for a tdv8 then I'll upgrade.

Tdi's and TD5's are great engines for the DIY'er to learn on....the Td6 and the vast complex electronics on the L322's is a real head spinner....

Awesome cars, but as above, they tend to lunch their gearboxes in short order, 80-100k miles is about the lifespan of them....only real cure is a rebuild and fitting the Sonnax valve block....so budget £2.5k-3k for that work to be done.

L322's are expensive cars to own, not just fuel but parts and repairs.....if you can DIY your own repairs, have access to decent diagnostic gear and a very understanding wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/transgender partner then costs can be kept down, but when you consider that for the price of one air strut on the L322 you can replace the whole suspension springs, dampers and bushes on a Defender/Utility Land Rover, it is not going to be cheap ownership.

I loved mine and if I didn't have a young family, busy worklife and no spare time then I would still have her on the drive, but I needed a simpler and less stressful ownership time, so went for a 300Tdi Land Rover - it is only nuts and bolts....only thing that is a head scratcher is the myriad of wiring changes done by previous owners over the last 29 years!!

Hi all I did do a search for L322 Buying advice - but for the most part all I got was loads of threads asking for - you guessed it - "L322 Buying advice".

Isn't there a definitive thread that lists all the stuff to be aware of?
