Thetford lanes?

I'm terribly sorry Mr D A Roberts please forgive my ignorance, clearly I'm one of those ruffians who modify their Landrovers in order to race about ruining green lanes and forcing their closure. I will with immediate effect restrict my activities to pay & play site as you so wisely suggest.

I'm hoping in true Landyzone fashion the comments were taken and given in a lighthearted way....having not met you guys in the flesh I'm only going on what is written....hoping to change that soon by meeting you out on the lanes some time.....

I wasn't for one moment trying suggest that you shouldn't get the trucks muddy or that you were intent on chewing up lanes but also you guys need to be aware that there are a lot of antis out there and they often like to take our comments out of context....

Check out the Facebook Name and Shame page - you find people that have been named and shamed for going off piste at Barrow Clump - not a million miles away from where you guys were at the weekend....they were obviously looking for challenging lanes - they went off piste, got stuck and were named and shamed all over Facebook....as well as risking being reported for Section 59 by other greenlaning folk....

For the newbies on the thread the best way to know if a lane is legal to drive or not is Trailwise, Council Website or the Rights of Way Officer at the local council. In some cases the maps can be very out of date....Different councils also have different standards. Suffolk Lanes are well signposted, Cambs lanes that have TRO's on them out Ely way are gated in Winter physically stopping access...but a lot of lanes in Cambs are closed in the winter and don't have barriers. Norfolk lanes are very well documented on their interactive website...some lanes are diverted but the diversion not documented on the OS map....

Oh, and if you didn't know it existed it's worth checking out Section 59.....

......I'm only trying to help here as there are a lot of different opinions about when you should and shouldn't drive lanes....hope this helps....

Gee thanks for that. Whilst you're online. Could you help my Grandmother? She seems to have forgotten, how to suck eggs.. :rolleys:

Blimey my mate said if you can fit a car down a track you could drive on it I never knew there was rules..

I regret to inform you that you have been misinformed by the nefarious creature, parading as your friend.

The rules strictly state that lanes should be driven only when completely dry and when Air humidity is below 25%, Under no circumstances should you even turn the engine on if rain is forecast at any time within the next 72hrs.

If and only if the above conditions are met should you venture off your driveway. When reaching a lane you should walk it. 1st. This is to ensure that there are no bumps undulations or irregularities in the surface. You may want to take a self leveling laser level with you. Any deviation in excess of 10mm renders the lane undriveable and you should return to your vehicle immediately.

Also a group of 6 vehicles is the maximum number of vehicles per year If you are unsure, how many vehicles have driven the lane in the previous 12 months, Assume the worst and return to your vehicle.

Happy laning :D

Glasshole! :D

I see what you did there ;)

PS I am right in thinking if there's only one track it's a footpath but if there's two it's a byway int I..?

Yep. & if the steps going over the walls are a bit steep that's usually a good indicator that they'd rather you didn't drive ya car down it, BUT you should always try ya best to get on to the track. as going off piste is frowned upon.

Also 3 tracks should always be driven as the fastest speed possible. full revs low range and don't stop for anything. Extra Bragging points are awarded if you get further than anyone else.
