I wouldn't be too worried about that. The TD4 engine does run cool, mine usually runs at around the quarter mark, getting up to around half in heavy traffic. I would be surprised if your thermostat is faulty. They usually fail in the closed position, which would lead to overheating.

Td4 thermostats fail in the open position so you get constant cooling and fuel economy suffers.

Temp gauge should be around the middle even in normal driving after approx 5-10 minutes.

Exactly. But after hour of driving still 1/4 and both radiator pipes are warm. Maybe about 40- 50 degrees of celsius.

It should run at at around 85°C, which is halfway on the temperature gauge.

It's very common for the thermostat to fail on the TD4.

The TD4 thermostat fails open, which is why the engine never gets to operating temperature.

The thermostat has failed open. You need to change the original thermostat (about a 4 hour job) or fit the Renault thermostat in the top hose, which is a quicker and easier job. ;)

Hello guys, have TD4, and probably i see standart problem- temperature gauge reaches only 1/4 of the range. So, i should replace thermostat.

Options i found:
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-PEL100571
and
https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/r7...el-thermostat-kit-aftermarket-revised-version

I prefer original one, i'm right?

Thanks.

No matter which one you go with make sure you change the O-ring as well (STC4540) in fact have a quick look at this thread, you can fit an inline stat, less hassle of 4 hours labour to fit an original one, if you decide to fit an inline stat only uses gates stat.
