my series 3 diesel when driving in the 50-55mph region, gets very close and sometimes into the red bit, but at 40mph speeds, is about half way to 3/4, i know landys are slow, is it that its been driven too hard or could there be other faults, the radiatior is new so i know that isnt blocked up, thought it could be thermostat, had also concidered fitting an electric fan infornt of the rad, to improve cooling, any thoughts/ suggestions?
thanks ben

Hmmm 50/55 that's a bit hard on the old girl if it is like mine it will do it but is happier at 48/50 I think the petrols are better for the upper end but I like the 29 mpg From the diesel

i get 33 mpg on mine :), also do you have overdrive, if so who's it made by ?and think it would be worth fitting an electric fan (wont be kenwole, will be from scrap man or ebay so only like £20) ?
thanks ben

best bet is the radiator fan off a mk1 ford mondeo petrol as theyre about the same size as a kenlowe dont arf shift some wind and have plenny of plakki round em to fix brackets to at about £10 from the scrappys its the best bang yer can get for yer buck :D:D:D

Forget about the fan.......lecky fans are for instead of, not as well as......, 2 1/4's if anything are over cooled (designed to run in the tropics as well as everywhere else) and you have an issue that needs sorting not covering up.

Stat has gotta be favorite, take it out and see if your still overheating. If not put a new one in.

If it still overheats check the hoses.....esp bottom hose as they can get partially blocked by crap. Check for cold spots on the rad (I know tis new but check anyway)

Failing that do an engine flush.....once you've established you have a good flow of water round the whole system then there's only the pump left.......
